but it definitely is on my high-priority list. Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a mother like knowing there is a sippy cup lost somewhere in the corners of the house, and not knowing if milk was the last thing you put into it. Because if you have ever, with much trepidation, opened a sippy cup that had even been left out overnight with a touch of milk in the bottom, you understand what a truly foul and disgusting smell is.
And if you have ever found a sippy cup that had been lost, unknowingly, rolled under a crib with old apple juice and had sat and fermented for days on end, you also know that some things are lost causes, and it is better to just throw it in the trash than try to clean it.
So, no matter what the drink inside is, I have fear right now, people. Fear that there is an impending very bad smell lurking somewhere in my house. It doesn't smell yet, but it will. Oh, it will.
Edited to add: Found lost sippy cup today under the couch. Good thing, too, since I had just bought this pretty purple one a few weeks ago....our newest addition to the sippy family. Praise God, it just had apple juice inside, and after only 24 hours, apple juice is not too bad. I can save this one, folks, I can save it.

LOL! I *just* found a sippy cup under Ruby's crib this morning. I forgot that we even owned this sippy cup, so I KNOW that it was lost many, many moons ago.
Needless to say, I walked that purple and green cup straight outside to the big trashcan. I didn't even bother to contemplate what might have been in it. Because spoiled milk smells bad, but so does fermented apple juice!!
Sometimes it's amazing what mothers can bond over. :)
Ah... I generally give it 24 hrs and if it hasn't been found by then... to the trash with it. Milk cups only though. Kolt drinks water otherwise and it DOES stink if it sits in a cup long enough but its salvagable at least. I have been trying to give Kolt more lidless cups to curb the throwing the sippy wherever it lands syndrome that he has :)
Oh yeah baby! The stink will tell. I lost one in my van once and knew it had to be in there somewhere, but could not find it. It had gotten stuck under a seat. I know it sounds like I should have seen it, but I think it had some help getting there. I prayed for no rain for a week wo I could keep my windows down and we didn't die from the smell.
I have also had this happen with bottles!! Now that's a smell all it's own!!
Hilarious post! I'm reminded of that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray hides the cheese inside the suitcase... EWWW!
:)
You see, as a guy, if I find it - I can't wait to see how nasty it has gotten. It could be lost for a month and I'm opening that sucker up!
